Frontier Airlines - The Spirit of the West and now A Whole Different Animal. Frontier is a Denver based airline that has prospered since its inception in 1994. Frontier puts pictures of animals on the tails of its aircraft. The pictures give the airline a unique look and help it stand out in a crowded airline market. Up until 2001 Frontier operated an all 737 and 737 Classic fleet. They have now converted to an Airbus A319 and A318 fleet and a mixed fleet of regional aircraft. Frontier held a contest to name the animals. The names are added below. (names courtesy of C. King) Oct 2003 - All 737-200s have been withdrawn from service. May 2005 - All 737-300s have been withdrawn from service. Feb 2006 - Frontier announces plans to add more A318s and A319s to the fleet as well as A320s. Sep 2006 - Frontier announces the purchase of Q400s and the discontinuance of the Horizon CRJ-700 relationship in 2007. Jan 2007 - Frontier announces a relationship with Republic Airlines to provide ERJ-170 service. Aug 2007 - The Q400 (DH8-400) aircraft have started to arrive Feb 2008 - The first A320 delivered.
